This Was Toscanini

Email share

Few classical musicians have cast as large and long a shadow as Arturo Toscanini. His passion, his relentless demands on his musicians and himself, made him a legend. Samuel Antek, who was a member of the NBC Orchestra when Toscanini was conductor, wrote a great memoir about that time and about Toscanini, and now Antek’s daughter, Lucy Antek Johnson, has updated it, expanded it, and brought it back into print.
