PFAS type chemicals, found in products like Teflon and Scotchgard, have been found in water supplies across the country. Known as “forever chemicals,” they are not soluble in water and are bioaccumulative in the human body. This means they don’t degrade naturally and they have been linked to numerous negative health effects. Cairo is just one of the places in New York where firefighting foam has introduced PFOS into the water supply that represents a potential danger.
