Common Core Learning Standards

Email share

November 1, Karen DeWitt sat down with Dick Iannuzzi from NYSUT to discuss the Common Core Learning Standards. The CCLS have been adopted in 46 states and Washington DC but only implemented (and tested on) in two. New York was one of those two states that have already tested their students on these standards and, not surprisingly to many, the students did not do well. Approximately 60 percent of students were performing below the grade average assigned by State Ed, which Iannuzzi and others argue is because the students were assessed before educators were able to prepared enough to teach the curriculum.  NYSUT is asking for a  three year moratorium using the test scores to assess how students and their teachers are truly performing.
