Troy, NY, WMHT Public Media announced the election of its newest trustee Dr. KMarie King, at the January 18, 2024, meeting of the Board of Trustees.
Dr. King, who relocated to the Capital Region two and a half years ago, is a distinguished hepatobiliary and pancreas surgeon at Albany Med Health System. She serves as its chief of surgery and chair of the department of surgery – the first Black female to do so at an academic health science center in the United States.
“It is our great privelege to welcome Dr. King to our Board of Trustees,” said Anthony V. Hayes, President and CEO of WMHT. “Her energy, enthusiasm and ideas will greatly benefit WMHT.”
Dr. King is a trustee-at-large for the board of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the Vice-President of the Society of Surgical Chairs and the immediate former program chair for the Society of Black Academic Surgeons.
“As a new resident in the capital region, I am eager to engage with my community in innovative ways,” said Dr. King. “WMHT’s mission to advance education, culture and civic engagement to empower individuals, celebrate diversity and reveal what we have in common – really speaks to me on both a professional and personal level. I am honored to be elected.”
Dr. King’s appointment became effective January 19, 2024.
