Great Performances and the MET presents the Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. This American Folk opera stars Eric Owens and Angel Blue as Porgy and Bess and takes place in 1920s Charleston, South Carolina. Based off of the novel Porgy by DuBose Heyward, Porgy and Bess is about a poor and disabled black street beggar who lives in the slums of Charleston. It features many beautiful compositions, including the beautiful and famous song: Summertime.
