The PAARI, or Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative, seems to be working. Chief Peter Volkmann is building a body of evidence to prove that it is. When he started the program, he had to convince the community that it would be effective. He also had to convince his fellow cops.
The School of Public Health at the University at Albany is looking at Chief Volkmann’s program, which he calls, “Chatham Cares 4 U” or just CC4U. Their help is appreciated, as is the support he’s getting from his community.
