Addiction, that uncontrollable urge. For some, it becomes all consuming, swallowing up lives. What causes addiction? Is there an effective treatment? And why are some of us prone to addiction - be it alcohol, drugs or gambling- and others aren't? These are just of few of the questions we'll examine on the next Health Link. As a Kaiser Family Foundation Media Fellow in Health, Mr. Ringwald researched social and spiritual aspects of addictions treatment and studied health policy around the United States. For his book, he conducted in-depth research, visited programs in ten states and interviewed 200 clients, counselors, administrators, policy-makers and scientists. Ringwald is a senior writer for Advocates for Human Potential, a social service research firm, and is a visiting scholar at The Sage Colleges, where he directs the Faith and Society Project.
