President Obama’s State of the Union Address
Political Analysis by Mark Shields and David Brooks
President Barack Obama will deliver the State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress on January 28, 2014 at 9 pm. For the first time since being named PBS NewsHour co-anchors, Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff will lead PBS’ live broadcast coverage of the speech and the Republican response. Joining them in the studio will be the NewsHour’s political analysis team of syndicated columnist Mark Shields and "New York Times" columnist David Brooks.
PBS NewsHour will offer additional resources online, including:
· Livestream video of both speeches at the PBS NewsHour website www.pbs.org/newshour and on the PBS NewsHour iPhone app.
· Crowd sourced translations in multiple languages in partnership with Amara. The 2012 State of the Union was captioned and translated into over 10 languages.
· A platform to share videos of viewers’ reactions to the speeches via YouTube.
PBS NEWSHOUR is seen by over 5 million weekly viewers and is also available online, via public radio in select markets and via podcast. The program is produced in association with WETA Washington, DC, and WNET.org in New York.
