Veterans

Homecoming for Veterans and their families can be both exciting and stressful. Many struggle to reintegrate back into relationships, parenting & civilian employment. Learn useful tips to help ensure a happy and healthy homecoming and examine Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Also, a local therapeutic program for returning veterans that uses retired thoroughbred race horses.
Learn how Saratoga WarHorse helps unite active military and veterans with thoroughbred horses. The program helps to create a connection that awakens feelings of a sense of self.

Charles Kennedy, PhD
Dr. Charles Kennedy is the Lead Psychologist and PTSD Program Coordinator at Stratton VA Medical Center (VAMC). He earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology at SUNY-Albany and has been working at Stratton VAMC for over 20 years.

Donald B. Leinfelder, SSG, NYARNG
New York Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Donald Leinfelder, is a member of Headquarters Company of the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade, headquartered in Latham, was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he received while fighting with the 1st Battalion 69th Infantry in Baghdad in 2005.

Jordanna Mallach, CO Commander, VANG
Jordanna Mallach has been in the National Guard for over 10 years and currently serves as a Company Commander in the Vermont Army National Guard. She was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010.  She is the Program Coordinator for Homeward Bound Adirondacks.

Sean Tuckey, MA
Sean Tuckey holds a Master's degree in Counseling and Community Psychology from Sage Graduate School.  Sean is a Marine Veteran and Health Science Specialist of the Albany VA Behavioral VA Care (BVAC) Line.  In addition he works for the Albany VA Medical Center with the OEF/OIF/OND program for returning combat veterans as a Re-Adjustment Counselor.

Strong Bonds is a program for all National Guard members and families they offer education to strengthen relationships through education communication, and fun with other military members. This program also offers retreats to singles, couples and families.
