Antiques Roadshow | Boise

Watch Mondays, January 6 - 20, 2014 at 8pm on WMHT TV.

January 6, 2014 at 8pm: ANTIQUES ROADSHOW kicks off season 18 with a treasure-filled visit to Boise, Idaho! During ROADSHOW’s first-ever trip to Idaho, host Mark L. Walberg and appraiser Peter J. Shemonsky take a trip to the Egyptian Theatre to look at dazzling Egyptian Revival jewelry. Highlights include a first edition of the Book of Mormon that has been passed down through the guest’s family since 1833; a 1955 Madoura plate designed by Picasso that previously hung above the stove, collecting grease; and one of the top finds of the season — an 1858 oil painting by important Hudson River artist Sanford Robinson Gifford, valued at $300,000.

January 13, 2014 at 8pm: ANTIQUES ROADSHOW is in Idaho, mining the Gem State for hidden treasures! Host Mark L. Walberg and appraiser Gary Piattoni head to the Old Idaho State Penitentiary to discuss what type of law enforcement collectibles should be locked up in the vault. Highlights include a mid-century pinup painting by Earl Moran, whose work rises in value the more scantily clothed the model; a complete set of lobby cards from the 1951 film The Day the Earth Stood Still, a film the guest spent nine cents to see in theaters; and an inherited 1922 Edward Hopper etching titled The Cat Boat, appraised for $250,000.

January 20, 2014 at 8pm: In Boise, Idaho, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW host Mark L. Walberg joins appraiser Colleene Fesko at the Boise Art Museum to learn about the works of outsider artist James Castle. Highlights include an 1822 letter from Thomas Jefferson that documents his reading suggestions for furthering one’s education; a rare Babe Ruth Candy Club membership card, ca. 1926, that details tips from the Babe himself; and a ruby and diamond necklace, ca. 1920, that was originally mailed to the guest’s mother and sat on her front porch unnoticed for several days, valued $80,000 to $100,000.
