War: Live at The Grove
Get Your Groove On With One of the ‘70s Funkiest Bands In
WAR: LIVE AT THE GROVE
The legendary multi-platinum band War defined early-‘70s popular music, fusing together rock, funk, jazz, Latin, R&B and even reggae into a string of hit singles and acclaimed albums. Led by iconic lead singer/songwriter Lonnie Jordan, 2009 marked War’s 40th anniversary—and the band, which is still touring and recording, has been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The American Public Television-distributed special WAR: LIVE AT THE GROVE, airing Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 9pm on WMHT TV, brings viewers the band’s first-ever televised concert special. The program features War’s lively performance at the Grove theater in Anaheim, Calif., with a sterling song list featuring the band’s greatest hits.
Over the course of War’s storied career, the band has had 10 Top 10 Billboard Pop and R&B singles and has released 19 acclaimed albums. War was formed in 1969, serving as the backup band for singer Eric Burdon—the famous front man of The Animals. Through their multi-ethnic line-up and an experimental blend of styles and influences, War developed a laid-back, California funk vibe. In 1971, the band released their acclaimed self-titled debut, “WAR,” and the hit album “All Day Music,” beginning a career that has lasted well into the new millennium.
Songs included in the performance include hits “Spill the Wine,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” and “Low Rider,” as well as live favorites “The World is a Ghetto,” “Slippin’ Into Darkness,” “All Day Music,” “Gypsy Man” and “The Cisco Kid.”
With a set list full of War’s funky, groovy hits that helped to define a generation, WAR: LIVE AT THE GROVE is an unforgettable musical experience from one of America's best live bands.
