American Graduate Youth Voices Project
The knowledge that student voices are essential to constructing authentic solutions is at the heart of the American Graduate Youth Media Voices Project. As part of the WMHT American Graduate Project, and through a grant funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, WMHT and the Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) at the University at Albany are working collaboratively to engage youth from around the region to draw upon the power of Youth Media as a means to raise awareness about the high school dropout crisis in our region through a solutions-focused lens.
Students participating in the Liberty Partnerships Program will develop and produce media addressing topics identified as critical factors which influence a student’s decision to drop out of school. Using their media, students will design a Youth Summit which will be broadcast through a series of interstitials and integrated into the WMHT American Graduate webpage and social media for wider distribution. The media and Summit format will then be shared with other schools and programs in the region to amplify the youth perspective on the dropout crisis across communities in order to raise awareness, drive conversations, and mobilize the community to take action.
