WMHT Student Resources
Did you know that when TV was invented, many people thought that it would become the greatest educational tool ever created? At WMHT, we still think TV can be that great educational tool, and it can be tons of fun, too. That's why we offer shows you'll love every weekday on WMHT. But it doesn't stop there. Along with our partners at PBS Kids and PBS Kids GO!, we have a whole lot of online games, projects and webisodes just waiting for you to discover. Start poking around!
2012 National STEM Video Game Challenge
Inspired by the 'Educate to Innovate Campaign,' President Obama’s initiative to promote a renewed focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education, the National STEM Video Game Challenge is a multi-year game design competition whose goal is to motivate interest in STEM learning among America’s youth by tapping into students’ natural passion for playing and making video games. By age four, children who live in underserved families will have heard 32 million fewer words than children living in professional families. In response to this word gap, Sesame Street presents the "What's the Word on the Street?" campaign, which aims to excite children and their caregivers about literacy and language.
