Education at WMHT
A Commitment to Lifelong Learning

What distinguishes WMHT and PBS from other broadcasters is our public service commitment to fostering lifelong learning. This commitment is reflected in our on-air educational programs, our online services and in the work we do within the community. An established PBS affiliate serving Eastern New York State and areas of Western New England, WMHT-TV offers a rich array of educational children's television programs, from Sesame Street to Curious George to newer favorites like Super WHY!.
WEXT-FM, a service of WMHT, also offers kid-friendly radio programs, such as 'The Peanut Butter Jam.' But WMHT's educational mission extends beyond our broadcasts. In offering in-person Ready to Learn workshops, our staff uses PBS content to build children's literacy skills. We also host numerous other community events for parents and educators, such as film screenings and family literacy events.
Online Educational Resources
Now that you're here, take some time to look around our Web site. You'll find a lot more than TV schedules. Kids should swing by PBS Kids (for younger kids) or PBS Kids GO! (for older kids) to check out a ton of cool games and activities. For those in the WMHT broadcast area, be sure to take a look at WMHT for Students.
Parents, you can find games appropriate to your child's age, interests and educational needs on our Family Resources page. PBS Parents offers a wealth of parenting resources, as well. Caregivers may also want to explore children's books and age-appropriate television programs on our Family Resources page.
Educators, you'll find that WMHT helps you extend your classroom far beyond its physical walls. Every month, our Educator Resources page will point you in the direction of new resources, lesson plans or electronic field trips. WMHT is also your gateway to the VITAL New York Edition of Teachers' Domain, an online library of more than 3,500 free media resources from the very best of public television. These classroom resources are easy to use and correlate to state and national standards. Also, don't hesitate to explore more resources at PBS Teachers and PBS TeacherLine New York. Looking for a point in the right direction or some ideas to supplement your classroom instruction? Sign up for WMHT's Teacher E-Newsletter and we'll keep you abreast of events and programs in your area.
Be sure to check back with us frequently, as we'll be adding new features for parents, educators and kids regularly.
