Get Your GED Before the Test Changes
The GED test is changing. There will be a whole new test in 2014. Fast Forward New York has valuable resources to help you get your GED with the current tests by the December 31, 2013 deadline.
Attention Adult Learners: New Resources are Now Available
Preparing for the GED? Looking to strengthen skills for the workplace? Check out The Work Keys Collection on VITAL NY.
WMHT works in cooperation with the New York State Education Department, the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) and other education agencies to provide adults the chance to earn a high school diploma, develop literacy skills, focus on career skills or learn English as a Second Language (ESL).
By watching adult learning programs like GED Connection, Workplace Essential Skills, or TV 411, students can study when their schedules allow. These programs offer a supplement to classroom instruction provided at local adult learning centers. Free episodes of GED Connection and Workplace Essential Skills are also available on demand through VITAL New York-Teachers Domain (though you will need to be a registered VITAL NY user in order to access these resources). Additionally, PBS LiteracyLink provides quality adult basic education tools for students and teachers.
Educators who are working with individuals on job placement or employment may wish to utilize an episode-by-episode 'Help Wanted' curriculum, a companion piece to the WMHT-TV program, which is available for online viewing here, and is also available on DVD here.
Teachers: Do your learners need inspiration and motivation? Check out GED Profiles of Success: GED Graduates in Their Own Words. This online video library, created by GED Testing Services®, contains profiles of people who have passed the GED test and shows how a GED credential can provide a pathway to higher education and a career.
