The engaging film THE NEWPORT EFFECT: NEWPORT FOLK FESTIVAL covers the history of the renowned Newport Folk Festival and its profound impact on the world of folk music. Started in 1959 by jazz impresario George Wein, the now-legendary event laid the foundation for future music festivals and continues to sell out annually. Infamous as the place where Bob Dylan “went electric” in 1965, the festival also introduced blues giants like Mississippi John Hurt and Skip James; was instrumental in the resurrection and survival of Cajun music; and brought a diverse range of artists to the Newport stage, including international acts, gospel groups, and traditional folk artists.
