Ready To Learn

Funded by a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Ready To Learn is public broadcasting's response to a critical national goal: all children will enter school ready to learn.

Ready To Learn encourages adults to:
  • Watch television with children
  • Limit the amount of television viewing
  • Be more selective in their children's choices of programming
  • Seek out related books and activities to reinforce the educational information provided in PBS children's series and other television programs

The purpose of WMHT's Ready To Lead in Literacy initiative is to help parents and educators use public television in an effective and appropriate manner with children. Over nine hours of children's programs are broadcast daily. In addition, a variety of Ready To Learn adult workshops are offered to parents and day care providers. These workshops show how to use children's programs on television as tools for learning in the home or day care setting.

Workshop topics include:
  • Television and Literacy
  • Kids & TV
  • MATH and Literacy
  • TV as a Science Teacher
  • TV as an Art & Music Teacher
  • Get Healthy: Snacks and Exercise
  • Sesame Street Beginnings: Talk Read Write

Participants in WMHT Ready To Learn workshops receive valuable tools and information they can use with their children. For workshop information, call 518  880-3484
