Ivy League Rumba captures the magic of the popular Cuban Music Festival held in Providence, Rhode Island. Filmed in the last few months of 2015, the documentary highlights the music of renowned soloists and ensembles such as: Descemer Bueno, Pedrito Martinez, Dr. Ed Calle, Palo, Roman Diaz, Leslie Cartaya, and Son Lokos. “Rhode Island isn’t the first place you would think of to host a Cuban Music Festival, but Dr. Richard Snyder of Brown University is a great follower and fan of Cuban music, and the music festival was a deliciously crazy and ingenious idea on his part,” states Joe Cardona, co-director of the film. Ivy League Rumba, analyzes the state of Cuban music in today’s industry. Experts such as Nat Chediak, Dr. Eva Silot, Ned Sublette, Viviam Maria and Arturo Gomez Cruz contribute their observations and comments offering the documentary depth and complexity.
