Next on 'New York NOW': Electronic Voting Machines
Ten years after the now infamous Florida election recount involving George W. Bush and Al Gore, New York will finally have new voting machines. You'll remember how scrutinized many of the ballots were in the Sunshine State right after election night in 2000. Many people said they were confused by the paper ballots, causing them to be unsure of whom they actually voted for. In 2002, Congress passed the Help America Vote Act, requiring states to provide new voting machines and eventually leave these paper ballots, and hopefully the confusion, behind. So it's goodbye to the old-fashioned lever voting machines and hello to the new machines, which will scan and enter your vote electronically. Before you head to the voting booth this September 14th, see how they work on this week's program.
Also, many incumbents are scrambling to do last-minute campaigning with Primary Day closing in. We'll have the latest news and analysis this week at our Reporter Roundtable.
*Fri., Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. | Sun., Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.*
