WMHT Ready to Learn Services
Promoting Educational Use of PBS Children's TV and Web Sources
The goal of WMHT's Ready To Learn services is to strengthen early literacy skills and prepare children for success in school.
In collaboration with a variety of community partners, WMHT demonstrates the use of PBS' educationally-sound children's programs and Web resources (such as Sesame Street literacy podcasts) as tools for learning in the home, classroom and day care settings. Children's programs are broadcast from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. every weekday on WMHT. Additional Saturday and Sunday morning programs are also broadcast. Ready To Learn encourages adults to watch television and videos with children, to limit the amount of television and other "screen" use, to be more selective in guiding children's programming choices and to use related books and activities to reinforce the knowledge offered in educational children's TV programs.
Through Ready To Learn workshops, parents and early childhood educators can learn how to use activities, books, PBS programs and resources to strengthen educational concepts for children. For workshop information, or to inquire about scheduling a workshop, call (518) 880-3484 or e-mail us.Underwriting Provided By:
CSEA and WMHT's Ready to Learn partnership continues to build in the Capital Region. Nearly twenty VOICE providers are participating in a series of Ready to Learn: Train the Trainer workshops led by WMHT's Education staff.
The goal of this pilot partnership is for trained providers to teach workshop concepts to all VOICE members in the Capital Region and beyond, enhancing learning and ensuring all children enter school "ready to learn."
