Anne of Green Gables Season 1 and 2

Precocious yet lovable Anne Shirley (Megan Follows) returns to public television for an encore presentation of ANNE OF GREEN GABLES I and II, a classic television series that chronicles the trials and tribulations of a young orphan girl navigating her way through life. Based on the 1908 novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery, the story’s fairytale charm, emotional power and endless wit has made it a fixture in children’s libraries around the world for more than a century. The drama first premiered on public television in 1986 and garnered several prestigious awards, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Children’s Program, nine Academy of Canadian Cinema and TV Gemini Awards, a Peabody Award, and TV Guide’s Most Popular Program.

 

Anne of Green Gables

L.M. MONTGOMERY’S ANNE OF GREEN GABLES tells the story of Anne Shirley, a precocious young girl taken from an orphanage and placed in the care of the uptight Marilla Cuthbert and her brother, Matthew. The conservative Marilla has a profound effect on the adventurous Anne and creates a journey of learning and personal engagement that has resonated with generations since L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables was first published in 1908. The book remains an iconic work of Canadian literature and has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide.

Directed by John Kent Harrison and based on the original script by Susan Coyne, this adaptation, filmed in Canada, stars critically acclaimed actor Martin Sheen. Sheen – who has appeared in blockbuster films such as The Amazing Spider Man and The Amazing Spider Man 2, and played the President of the United States in the multi-Emmy winning series “The West Wing” –portrays Matthew Cuthbert, one half of the brother-sister couple who care for Anne Shirley.

MONTGOMERY’S ANNE OF GREEN GABLES include 14-year old Ella Ballentine (The Captive) as Anne Shirley, Sara Botsford (“E.N.G.”) as Marilla Cuthbert, Julia Lalonde (“Catch a Christmas Star”) as Diana Barry, Kate Hennig (“Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould”) as Rachel Lynde, Stefani Kimber (Remember) as Josie Pye, Drew Haytaoglu (“Looks Just Like the Sun) as Gilbert Blythe, Kyle Gatehouse (Source Code) as Mr. Phillips and Linda Kash (Cinderella Man) as Mrs. Barry.

In ANNE OF GREEN GABLES – THE GOOD STARS, Anne Shirleyturns 13 and faces complex situations with friends, learns from inspirational adults and experiences an escalating friendship with Gilbert. Her free-spirited nature is challenged by her perceived need to be sensible, a journey fraught with confusion and some unfortunate — albeit amusing — mishaps.
