Kacie Rea | 2016 LearningMedia Local Digital Innovator
I am a certified ELA teacher in New York State and I teach 6th grade digital literacy. This class is a combination of digital citizenship, technology, and ELA. Students learn how to use 21st century skills through digital citizenship curriculum in a Project Based Learning environment. While students are learning about technology and digital citizenship, they are also building important ELA skills within reading and writing. Previously, I have worked at a PTECH school (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) where we focused on Project Based Learning, integrating various subjects into projects, and creating a paperless environment. Digital innovation in education is important because our students are living in, and will be working in, an increasingly digital world. Digital innovation does not stop at using interesting and innovative technology in the classroom, it is essential that students acquire critical thinking skills to use it to it's fullest extent.
