Nature Trackers Club Monthly Challenge | Squirrel Watching

Nature Trackers

Attention Nature Trackers!

Squirrels may be a common animal but they are wildlife, too! Most cities and towns contain a type of squirrel called a Tree Squirrel. Can you guess why it’s called that? That’s right, it spends most of its time up in the trees. It is an excellent climber with claws that help it scale up tree trunks and scatter across branches. Tree Squirrels mostly eat seeds, nuts, berries and other plant materials. Sometimes you may see a squirrel burying their food in the ground to save for winter when there is less food to eat.

Observe squirrels in your neighborhood and use the Squirrel Watching Checklist to mark off popular squirrel behaviors and features you see.

Happy Observing!
