The Experts Were Wrong

Posted by Eric Hoppel on

No matter who you followed, who you voted for or even if you voted, odds are you were surpised on the morning of November 9, 2016. While there were a few people predicting a win by Donald Trump, most of the "experts" got this one wrong. They did what they had always done; studied trends, looked at polls, talked to likely voters. But they did not predict a Trump win.

#citizenactive asked Ron Seyb of Skidmore College about this. My takeaway from the conversation? You are not "throwing away" your vote just because you choose to vote for the candidate who is not expected to win. And you're not Brad Pitt.

New Yorkers vote in state primaries on Thursday, September 13th this year. That’s THURSDAY, not Tuesday. The date was moved because Tuesday is the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks and also the second day of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

Good information about where and when we vote is available from the Board of Elections.

The League of Women Voters of New York State is an excellent, non-partisan source of information on elections.

Next week, #citizenactive will be speaking with the League’s Director of Program and Policy, Jennifer Wilson, on the League’s history, what it does now and why it’s so important for all of us to vote.
