How and Why We Read
Stores are about communication! Recognize D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) Month with this Crash Course lesson, in which John Green asks: “Why do we read? What's the point of reading critically?” He explains that writing and the ability to read it are “markers of civilization,” and argues that reading is about effectively communicating with other people. He also explains that reading and writing allow us to communicate with people who live very far away from us and experience voices we may not readily have access to in everyday life. Unlike a direct communication though, the writer has to communicate with a stranger, through time and space, with only "dry dead words on a page."
