Engineering Map of America

Last Updated by WMHT Web Editor on
PBSLM/American Experience

Did you know that the Washington Monument is both the world's tallest stone structure and the world's tallest obelisk, standing 555 feet 5 1/8 inches? Or that the Statue of Liberty was among the first examples of curtain wall construction, the same system that made the skyscraper possible a few years later?

Teach your class about some of America's engineering marvels with this interactive map from "American Experience"! Each project is described with a variety of supporting materials, including archival images and documents as well as videos excerpted from "American Experience" episodes. A background essay, discussion questions and teaching tips are also included.
