American Government | The Powers of Government

Posted by WMHT Web Editor on

The United States federal government maintains many powers and plays numerous roles in society. For example, the government can decide which words people can say on TV, or when it's okay for someone to search a student’s school locker.

The blended lesson below invites students to explore the government’s three branches, examine the powers that the Constitution assigns to each branch, and assess how the three work together. To complete the lesson, students will use a variety of reading and writing strategies, while exploring content through videos and interactive activities. At the end, they’ll write an essay that shares what they’ve learned about the Constitution, the government’s responsibilities, and the system of checks and balances.
