All About the Holidays: Spanish Heritage
September 15th marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month! Teach your class about the culture and contributions of Hispanics and Latinos with another installment of PBS LearningMedia's "All About the Holidays.”
There are about 54 million Hispanics and Latinos in the United States. That's a lot of people to celebrate! Across the country, Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated with festivals and community events recognizing the contributions of Hispanics and Latinos in the U.S. This educational video offers students an overview of the observance’s week-long origins in 1968, to its extension as a full month in 1988 by President Reagan. They will also learn about some important figures in Hispanic American history, like Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic woman to become an astronaut, and Nancy Lopez, one of the greatest women golfers to play the game.
