Dr. Sandhyaa Iyengar
Dr. Sandhyaa Iyengar is a senior resident at Albany Medical Center Department of Pediatrics. Her passion is helping families discover the joy of reading together right from birth. Family shared reading is crucial to help children’s brain development, language and cognitive skills. It also provides positive parent-child interactions to nurture a life-long love of learning. Together with a team of resident physicians and her mentor, Dr. Iyengar founded Story Time Stars to teach parents the importance of reading together as well as provide a structured way they can achieve this. Story Time Stars exists under the umbrella of the Capital District’s Reach Out and Read program, a successful nationwide organization in which doctors discuss the importance of reading at well-child visits. Dr. Iyengar’s background includes several years working in a residential home for children with developmental disabilities and teaching adaptive aquatics. She was also an early childhood educator and dance/yoga teacher for children with special needs. She aspires to attain subspecialty training in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.
