Student Reporters

In collaboration with community partners, WMHT is proud to feature media created by youth reporters from the Capital Region as part of the WMHT American Graduate Project. Utilizing youth media curriculums from StoryCorpsUAdobe Youth Voice, and PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs, WMHT has partnered with after school and community organizations to provide training in basic journalism techniques and in the creation of reports from the community across media platforms to help build the next generation of media makers.

  • AVillage-WMHT A+PLUS Summer Youth Employment Student Reporters
In partnership with the A+PLUS Summer Youth Employment Program in Albany, NY, AVillage, Inc. and WMHT collaborated to develop the AVillage-WMHT Student Reporter program.  Under the supervision of Willie White, Executive Director of AVillage, Inc., youth from the South End neighborhood of Albany worked as reporters in their neighborhood for five weeks during July and August 2012 to learn more about the people and issues that make up the fiber of their community. In addition, working with WMHT staff, the youth learned basic skills in interviewing, journalism and media storytelling.
