American Graduate Day 2016

American Graduate Day is returning for its 5th year on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 2pm-6pm on WMHT-TV.  Hosted by Soledad O'Brien, the four-hour national broadcast will celebrate the individuals and non-profit organizations dedicated to helping youth stay on track to high school graduation. American Graduate Day is the culminating event ofSpotlight Education– a special week of primetime education-themed programming on WMHT beginning September 12, 2016.

Celebrity guests and more than 25 nonprofit organizations across the country will be featured as partners for American Graduate Day, with guests including Gen. and Mrs. Colin Powell, Shaquille O’Neal, and Rachel Platten, and organizations including My Brother’s Keeper, the Sparkle Effect, Sesame Street® and the Ad Council.  

This year’s broadcast will explore the power of mentorship through half-hour long segments on the following topics: Early Education, More and Better Learning, Special Needs Communities, STEAM, Dropout Prevention and Re-Engagement, and College and Career Readiness.

Throughout the day, viewers will be encouraged to engage with #AmGrad on Facebook and Twitter, and to go online and become an American Graduate Champion by being a mentor.
